Adoption Agency:
Every state has established an Adoptive agency to make an arrangement for adoptions. In an adoption process, generally, you will be screened by the adoption agency and documents relating to the age of the natural parent and adoptive parent, age of the child, the documents relating to the consent of them will be needed for the adoption process. The agency based on its screening and other related documents will forward its opinion to the court.
If you want to adopt a child, the agency may work with you and the natural parent throughout the process, and may assist you in getting the formal adoption through the court proceedings. As the process of adoption differs from one state to another state it will be more helpful and informative if you consult the best attorney in your city. However, your attorney will guide you in matters relating to the court proceeding to get the formal adoption.
What are the effects of Adoption?
If you adopt a child,
- The natural parent rights and obligations towards the child are terminated and the adoptive parent acquires such rights. Adoption puts an end to the ties of the child in the family of its birth and replaces them with the ties of kinship in the family of adoption.
- The adoptive parents are responsible for providing health, education, food and other needs of the child.
- The child gets the right of inheritance to the adoptive parent’s estate. But this right may be altered by a Will or trust or other disposition of the property.
